Here’s How to
Rank in ChatGPT with AI SEO
I’m Paul Hoda, in search since 2005. I help businesses rank in ChatGPT with AI SEO, so ChatGPT can find, check and recommend them when customers ask. I specialise in dental and health, and I do the work myself.

How to Rank in ChatGPT with AI SEO
ChatGPT now answers buying questions with named suggestions: which clinic, which supplier, which software. Working to rank in ChatGPT with AI SEO means giving it solid reasons to pick your business for those replies, and removing whatever stops it from reading your site. It builds on ordinary SEO rather than replacing it.
When ChatGPT searches the web, three things shape whether your name comes up:
- Technical SEO: OpenAI’s OAI-SearchBot has to be allowed in robots.txt and past your firewall, and your pages need to sit in the search indexes ChatGPT relies on, including Bing.
- Content and on-page SEO: pages that say plainly what you do, for whom, where and at what price, phrased the way people actually type questions into a chatbot.
- Authority: reviews, press coverage, listings and forum threads that describe you the same way, because ChatGPT leans heavily on what other people say about you.
Most businesses fall short on one of these. I work out which, put it right first, then strengthen the others. New to hiring help? Here is what an SEO consultant brings to a business, in plain terms.
Clues that ChatGPT is overlooking you
- Customers asked ChatGPT and were given your rivals’ names
- ChatGPT gets your services or prices wrong
- No visits from chatgpt.com show in your analytics
- Your site turns away OAI-SearchBot without you knowing
- Important pages are missing from Bing’s index
- Few reviews or mentions exist beyond your own site
Every one of these has a cause that can be found. If your Google traffic has slipped too, look at the common reasons Google positions fall first.
Search Growth That Helps You Rank in ChatGPT with AI SEO
ChatGPT tends to surface businesses that already have a strong footprint in search, so these figures are the groundwork. Each one is taken from client Search Console data, before and after I started. They count genuine clicks from real searchers, nothing padded.

Paul Hoda Helps You Rank in ChatGPT with AI SEO
I’m Paul Hoda, an independent SEO consultant based in London, with clients all over the UK. Before search, I repaired computers, wrote code and built websites. I moved into SEO in 2005 and have spent the years since testing, on real sites, why search engines favour one business over another.
ChatGPT adds a fresh question to that test: why does a chatbot name one company and skip its competitor? The answer often hides in technical details, such as a crawler refused at the CDN or text that only loads through JavaScript, which I can check and repair myself.
My own website has kept page-one Google positions for hard-fought terms like SEO expert since 2013. I bring the same patience to ChatGPT visibility: earn the recommendation properly, then check month by month whether it actually appears.

Some of the Businesses I Have Worked With

What Do You Get From AI SEO for ChatGPT?
Each project is shaped around your business, but these are the pieces I use to make a company easier for ChatGPT to find, believe and suggest, while protecting your Google rankings. One person delivers all of it, with no agency mark-up on top.
ChatGPT Visibility Audit
I put the questions your buyers ask to ChatGPT, note who it names and which pages it links to, and compare that with your rivals. Each gap gets a priority based on likely enquiries.
Conversational Query Research
People ask ChatGPT whole questions, often with a budget, a place or a condition attached. I gather those phrasings from sales calls, forums and search data, then match each to a page.
Clear, Direct Service Pages
Each service page opens with a short summary of what you offer, to whom, where and from what price, followed by the detail, so ChatGPT can describe you accurately.
Technical Groundwork
OAI-SearchBot and Bingbot let through robots.txt and your CDN, Bing Webmaster Tools verified, text readable without JavaScript, quick pages and valid schema markup.
Comparisons & Buying Guides
Fair comparisons, buying guides and pricing explainers answer the questions ChatGPT is asked most often, giving it a reason to send people to your site.
Reviews & Business Listings
Genuine reviews on Google, Trustpilot and sector platforms, plus matching business details across directories, give ChatGPT outside evidence that you are real and well regarded.
Brand Mentions & PR
Features in trade press, expert comments, roundup lists and community threads of the kind ChatGPT search often reads, won through outreach and never paid for.
ChatGPT Referral Tracking
Visits from chatgpt.com separated out in GA4, a fixed set of prompts rechecked monthly, and enquiries traced back to where they started.
Drop & Penalty Recovery
If Google traffic fell after an update or relaunch, I find out why and plan the recovery, because weak search visibility also lowers your odds in ChatGPT.
Which Businesses Should Try to Rank in ChatGPT?
These businesses gain the most, because their customers already turn to ChatGPT for advice and shortlists before they ever get in touch.
Dentists & Healthcare Practices
Patients ask ChatGPT what implants, Invisalign or whitening cost before choosing a clinic. Accurate treatment pages, named clinicians and steady reviews give it good grounds to mention your practice.
Ecommerce Brands
Shops whose products appear, or go missing, when shoppers ask ChatGPT what to buy, and who need clear product details, structured data and real customer reviews.
Software & SaaS Companies
Software companies whose buyers ask ChatGPT for alternatives and shortlists, and who need readable documentation, pricing and even-handed comparison pages.
Local & Professional Services
Firms across the UK that want to be the business ChatGPT suggests when someone asks for a dependable provider close to home.
In-House Teams & Agencies
In-house teams and agencies who want a seasoned adviser to shape a ChatGPT plan, review the output and brief developers, without adding headcount.
Should You Hire a Consultant or an AI SEO Agency to Rank in ChatGPT?
Plenty of firms now sell “ChatGPT optimisation” packages. Before you sign, ask who will make the changes on your website, how they check what ChatGPT really says, and whether they promise positions that nobody can control.
An agency may suit you if
- You want lots of new content published every month
- SEO, ads and social must all come from one supplier
- Your board expects a full account team in meetings
- You can fund management layers as well as delivery
A consultant may suit you if
- You want ChatGPT advice resting on two decades of SEO
- Your problems need tracing in code and server settings
- You prefer talking to the person who does the work
- You would rather pay monthly than commit for a year
Paying someone already?
I can look at what your current supplier is doing for ChatGPT, whether they measure it properly, and where the budget could work harder.
| Comparison | Paul Hoda, ChatGPT SEO | Typical AI SEO Agency | Cheap Freelancer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who does the work | Me, on every task | A junior team once the pitch is won | Sometimes passed on to someone else |
| Experience | Working in SEO since 2005 | Varies with whoever is assigned | A track record that is hard to verify |
| Communication | You speak to me directly | Questions routed via an account manager | Replies can slow down or stop |
| Contracts | Rolling monthly terms | Contracts of 6 to 12 months are usual | One-off jobs, little follow-up |
| Technical SEO | Bot access, Bing indexing and schema fixed by me | Passed to another department | A generic checklist at best |
| Cost | From £1,000 a month, no overheads added | Bigger fees to pay for sales and staff | Cheap at first, costly to undo |

Why Bing Matters When You Rank in ChatGPT with AI SEO
When a question needs current information, ChatGPT runs a web search, reads a small number of pages and writes a reply that links to its sources. OpenAI says this draws on third-party search providers and its own crawler, OAI-SearchBot, so being reachable by that bot and indexed in Bing, widely reported as one of those providers, both count.
Without a search, ChatGPT answers from what it learned in training, which reflects how often and how consistently your business was discussed online. That is why reviews, press and listings matter as much as anything on your own website.
No one can guarantee a mention or a top spot in ChatGPT, as answers change with the question, the person and the day. What I can do is make your business the clearest, best-supported choice. To learn more about me as your adviser, see my AI SEO consultant page.
What ChatGPT looks for
- Pages it is allowed to crawl and index
- A clear answer near the top of each page
- Consistent facts about your business
- Recent, genuine customer reviews
- Mentions on sites it already trusts
- Clear evidence of who wrote the content

What Stops a Business Ranking in ChatGPT?
When ChatGPT ignores a business, the reason is rarely a mystery. A firewall rule may be turning OAI-SearchBot away. The site may never have been submitted to Bing. Or ChatGPT may be repeating an old directory entry, simply because nothing newer contradicts it.
I begin with evidence: server logs to show which bots call by, Bing Webmaster Tools to show what is indexed, and ChatGPT itself to show what it says and which pages it links to. The order of work usually follows from there.
Problems I find and fix most often:
- OAI-SearchBot blocked
- Pages absent from Bing
- Firewall bot challenges
- JavaScript-only content
- No Organization schema
- Mismatched business details
- Too few recent reviews
- Prices hidden or outdated
- Vague service pages
- No author information
- Little press coverage
- ChatGPT visits untracked
How the work is delivered
I work remotely and fit around your team’s hours. Each month you receive a written report and an updated sheet of ChatGPT questions and answers, you can reach me by email or phone, and developer tasks go straight into your own ticketing tool.
Bot access and Bing indexing can often be sorted within days. Reviews, mentions and reputation take months, because they rely on other people and other websites catching up.

Rank in ChatGPT with AI SEO: FAQs
How much does it cost to rank in ChatGPT with AI SEO?
My fees start at £1,000 per month on rolling terms. Independent consultants in the UK typically charge between £1,000 and £5,000 monthly for this kind of work. I confirm a price after a free review of your website and your current ChatGPT visibility.
Can you guarantee my business will rank first in ChatGPT?
No, and nobody honestly can. ChatGPT’s replies vary with the wording, the person asking, where they are and the day. I improve the things it relies on and report plainly on what changes, good or bad.
How does ChatGPT decide which businesses to recommend?
For questions that need fresh information, it searches the web, reads a few pages and summarises them with source links. Otherwise it draws on training data. Either way, clear pages, consistent facts and independent reviews and mentions make you a safer suggestion.
Should I allow OAI-SearchBot and GPTBot on my site?
They do different jobs. OAI-SearchBot fetches pages for ChatGPT search, so blocking it can keep you out of those answers. GPTBot gathers content for model training and can be allowed or blocked separately. Businesses that want visibility normally allow OAI-SearchBot.
Why does Bing matter for ChatGPT?
ChatGPT search uses third-party search providers, and Bing is widely reported to be one of them. Pages missing from Bing’s index are therefore harder for it to find. Verifying your site in Bing Webmaster Tools is a quick, worthwhile first step.
How do you measure visibility in ChatGPT?
Each month I rerun a fixed list of buyer questions and record who is named and which pages are cited. In GA4 I separate visits from chatgpt.com, which often carry a utm_source tag, and connect them to enquiries where possible.
How long before my business appears in ChatGPT answers?
Access fixes can show once pages are recrawled, sometimes within a few weeks. Progress that depends on reviews, press and reputation tends to take several months, and what models learn in training is refreshed far less often.
Is an agency or a consultant better for ChatGPT SEO?
An agency can suit high-volume content across many channels. If you want an experienced person who traces technical causes and talks to you directly, a consultant is usually better value. Read my guide to judging SEO experts before you decide.
Do reviews affect whether ChatGPT recommends me?
They are one of the clearest outside signals of trust. Recent, detailed reviews on Google and respected sector platforms help ChatGPT describe you accurately. I never buy or fake reviews; I help you ask happy customers in a fair, consistent way.
What do you need from me to get started?
Logins for Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, GA4 and your website, plus a note of what customers typically ask you before buying. Server logs or CDN settings help as well, so I can confirm which bots already visit.
Let’s Make Your Business Easier for ChatGPT to Recommend
Thanks for reading this far. ChatGPT is changing how people choose who to buy from, yet the businesses it suggests are usually the ones that were already clear, trusted and easy to find. I would be glad to help yours get there.
We’re a family-run business. Clients remain with us because the work keeps paying for itself, not because a contract ties them in. You deal with me, and each task is judged on whether it moves you towards more enquiries and sales.
Tricks that fool a chatbot this month tend to backfire the next. Accurate information, a well-built website and a good reputation are what last, and that is the work I do.
Ask for a free ChatGPT visibility check and find out what it says about your business right now.
With respect,
